Arsenal sign Gabriel from Villarreal

Arsenal have signed Gabriel Armando de Abreu the young 24 year old Brazilian defender. His former club was Villarreal a Spanish team in the La Liga. Arsenal put in a bid at £11.2 million with Joel Campbell going the opposite direction to Villarreal. When he got the phone call from Arsenal he was delighted, and when arsenal interviewed him he said "I had a talk with my family and I told them that it was my dream to play in the Premier League.

He started his career in the Brazilian club Esporte Clube Vitória. He made his debut at the age of 19 for the club and made more than 130 appearances for them thereafter. He was born on the 26th of November 1990 in Sao Paulo in Brazil. He is 1.87m tall which is tall for a defender as he will be able to defend and score headers. His shirt number is 5 for Arsenal. He signed for Villarreal on the 15th of August 2013 for a five year deal. He has won three cup with Vitória which were the Campeonato Baiano in 2010 and again with the same club in 2013 he also helped his club to win the Copa do Nordeste in 2010.

Gabriel in training

On Sunday Arsenal took on Aston Villa at the Emirates with a terrific win by five goals to nil. This match could have been Gabriel’s debut for Arsenal but as we had a high lead Arsene Wenger couldn’t take the risk as he wanted to keep a clean sheet and not lose any points on goal difference.  Wenger has admittedly said to the press that because Gabriel cannot speak English fluently he could cost goals due to the fact of not knowing what the instructions were set by the other players. Hopefully as he settles in, his English will improve and he could then turn out to be in the Arsenal starting 11. On Sunday Ozil scored 1 goal and had 1 assist. Giroud scored 1 goal and had 1 assist.  Cazorla scored 1 goal and had 2 assists. The new comer from the Spain Hector Bellerin scored 1 goal. Lastly the man who was out for a long period but still came back to shock the world was Walcott with 1 goal.
